I am fortunate enough to teach 14 second grade special education students who live in a low-income school district. We often rely on our teachers to provide the "extras" needed to help students learn, play, and grow.
All of our 2nd grade students enjoy the opportunity to learn while playing games.
This project will allow for small group learning by providing math games. The teachers in our building work hard to focus on each student's potential, and provide them with the materials they need. Reinforcing new learning in a game format is engaging and fun. Learning math skills, learning how to take turns, and being a good sport win or loose are all reinforced while playing games. We hope to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence, socialization, and wellness.
My Project
Hands-on games provide a different mode to learning new math skills. They help students learn to work as a team, be a more independent learner in the classroom, as well as get them up and out of their seat. These are three things I make sure happen daily in my classroom!
The special education students are work side-by-side with their non-struggling peers, learning at the same rate.
Groups are very fluid and students work with different peers often. Having the opportunity to provide new games will help these students grow. We appreciate you considering donating to our math game project! Thank you!
