Help me give my students a chance to reinforce and extend their math skills in a fun and interactive way with math games and manipulatives that would serve them by getting them excited about math and ready for STAAR!
Working for a Title I district, I have observed how hard my students have worked to overcome a lot of hardships throughout the years - something that became increasingly more challenging after Hurricane Harvey. Their persistence in the classroom and their efforts to do their best when the odds are very much against them is truly inspiring. I owe it to them to provide the best possible learning environment to help provide a successful future.
From day one of our school year, my students will work hard to prepare for the STAAR test.
As their teacher, I am working to build an environment that suits their needs and builds their focus on education. I am driven to teach them the importance of a solid education as a fundamental tool for a brighter future. These students will be taught to focus on how their skills will help them be successful in life - not solely the day of their big test.
My Project
My classroom is made up of a very diverse group of students, both academically and socio-economically. In our grade, we have a high number of students in Special Education, students with dyslexia, EL students and students with other learning deficits. We also have many high performing students.
Hands-on activities have proved successful in our class and we need more to reach the needs of every individual student.
In order to maintain the different level of needs in our grade, we need more manipulatives, such as skill boards and fraction and decimal models, and games like the ones requested that service needs for reinforcement as well as extension. Because we are an open concept campus, I only have two walls with very limited shelve space. In order to house these new games and manipulatives, I would need additional shelves for my classroom.
I have very hardworking students who are each working to reach their goal of progress on their standardized test. These games, activities, and manipulatives would help them go above and beyond that!
