My students need games such as Super Genius Addition and Snap It up to have an exciting way to practice and solidify their understanding of math facts and how numbers work.
Our first-grade classroom is made up of sixteen diverse children. They are diverse in their interests, learning styles, culture, socio-economic status, and abilities! Although we are a diverse group, in our classroom we are all on the same team! I strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to be themselves. I want my students to be excited about school each and every day! As their teacher, it's my job to create an environment which promotes learning!
This project will build my supplies of materials to make math more engaging and fun.
It supports our learning goals all while providing hands-on materials for children to solve and process math.
In addition, these resources will be used while I work with students in small groups or individually. They are meaningful activities which can be used to extend and support the math curriculum that it school uses. Many of the materials can be used by children independently to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are being taught in my classroom.
My Project
Math Board Games offer students the opportunity to build social skills, practice addition and subtraction fluency in a fun way, and offers teachers a non-threatening way to assess students’ ability to think flexibly about numbers. Math Games such as Super Genius Addition and Snap It require that students think on their feet and quickly transition from number-to-number. These games will be incorporated into our weekly math routines and will be used in small groups or partnerships.
Engagement and excitement are two very important factors to keep kids wanting to learn and practice math.
Math facts need to be practiced many ways and situations. These games will allow the students to continue wanting to practice their facts!
