My Students
I work in a large urban district. We have a diverse student population. The parents are very active in the community in which I teach. We depend on our parents to help us in the classroom, as we have no teacher aides.
The standards are high in our school, and we try to meet everyone's needs with very limited resources.
In order to differentiate the learning for my students, I am constantly trying to find exciting and engaging materials that can be used for multiple levels.
My Project
These math centers will reinforce and enrich the current math curriculum by promoting critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative learning. If funded, these center activities can last for five or more years. Each center can accommodate four students and there are eight activities. The easy to follow simple visual directions will benefit all learners (beginning and fluent readers).
Some of the skills that these activities cover are: geometry, place value, time, money, fractions, addition, and subtraction.
The colorful cards will be used alongside the fun to use materials like clocks, cubes, money, puzzles, etc. It is very hands-on, and students will enjoy learning with these center activities!
