My students need independent math activities like number rockets, number match and magnetic cards to reinforce what we are learning in our small groups.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an integrated co-teaching classroom in the Bronx with 26 kindergarten students, each with unique strengths and challenges.
The 26 sprouts in our classroom have begun to blossom!
You can see and hear these great minds blooming as they begin to realize those squiggles on the page are words and that they can read them!
In our classroom, we strive to create a caring and safe learning environment where all students feel confident to take risks and grow as learners. We meet the needs of our diverse population by emphasizing compassion and respect for all.
My Project
Each day we break into small groups to provide targeted math instruction to our students. Our classroom has a wide range of learning needs and styles and we find it best to meet students needs in small groups.
Independent math activities allow students to continue learning and reinforce the lessons they have recently been taught.
Many of the math concepts students learn need repeated practice so that they can use the skills fluently. The self checking magnetic boards for basic operations will allow students to practice independently, and will ensure that they are learning the correct skills. Many of the products on the market require the teacher to oversee the activity to ensure it is done correctly. These self checking activities will free up my time to work more intensely with the students with special needs. I can feel confident that the students are really getting the concepts.
