This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Head Start/ Pre-K program located in a rural area in North Carolina. We serve mostly low income families in the area. My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years of age. Each year we want to expose our students to different literacy and math concepts in order to give them a head start in achieving success in later grades. We want to teach our students the foundational skills that they will use to build on from year to year.
My Project
These materials are going to improve my math center. The students will be able to strengthen their math skills by using these fun child centered materials. I know that young learners love using materials that they can relate to. By using the counting cars we will talk about how many people can fit in their family cars that they use on a daily basis. The lady bug match set and the sequencing puzzles will help students to recognize numbers and what order they come in. These sets have insects and bugs that we can look for on the playground when going outside. These materials will help me to connect math concepts to events that happen in my students day to day lives.
The social and emotional book set will help me to model skills that they will use in and out of the classroom setting.
Students who have a strong connection with others and knows how to positively handle/express emotions tend to have a better school experience.
