My students need a Ten-Frames class set, Unifix Cubes, Sequencing Numbers Puzzles and other hands-on math activities to help us practice the concepts that are being taught.
My students come into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day. I teach at a Title I school where 93% of our students receive subsidized lunches. Our school serves students in grades PK through 8th grade and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers and questioners.
They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even though they don't know it yet. They are the future, and I want to give them the best start I can in school.
My Project
We do not have a document camera in my classroom, so, when teaching certain parts of math, just writing on the whiteboard isn't enough. We are currently learning about the tens frame and patterns. It is fun to make patterns using different manipulatives rather than just construction paper squares. We have also been working on the tens frame. While we copy the tens frame onto papers, they do get lost and torn up.
Having tens frame trays as well as additional counters would be extremely helpful for those students who are tactile and need to touch everything.
