Math Fun for Olinger's First Grade Scholars.

Help me give my students headphones to be able to extend their learning with the technology in their classroom. Dry erase markers to engage hands-on learners that will aide in participating during both our whole and small group.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of lack of supplies and resources.

Our school is in the South-Side of Chicago.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use. When something goes awry, students know that they must leave the rug quietly to get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil and paper. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction form either myself or other students. By having extra markers, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!

Technology is used in the classroom EVERYDAY!

To engage more students in Math and extend their learning, we use our IPads for IXL, for math games and educational use. In order for this to be successful , my students can work independently but to help all students in the way they learn sometimes students need the problem read to them, to eliminate distractions headphones to work at their own pace an hear what they need to hear is a necessity. This is why I am asking for a classroom set of headphones for each student !

Also, pencils seem to always stop learning or distract students, so having a pencil sharpener and extra pencils on hand, they will never go to waste !!
