Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every year I am able to teach, learn with and get to know a new set of 3rd grade mathematicians. I also get to wonder and strive to teach them foundational math skills that they are lacking and need in order to grow.

Math professional development would benefit my 3rd grade team for years to come!

Students who are in need of number sense, reasoning and work with word problems are in need of skills and strategies that I am hoping to gain.

3rd grade mathematicians are asked to so much important, high level thinking and work. It is important to facilitate and guide these mathematicians to the best of my ability. I look forward to my own math professional journey!

My Project

I was extremely fortunate to participate in a PD hosted by Greg Tang in my district this year. I was amazed and struck by how easily we moved through word problems using reasoning, visualizing and bar diagrams. One day was not enough and I crave more input and knowledge on how to better support my young mathematicians in the realm of word problems.

I need to continue my journey as a mathematician so I can pass down strategies, supports and valuable knowledge to my students.

I am so excited for a full two days of Greg Tang math along with other math gurus! My 3rd grade team chose to read a book about problem solving in math by Nicki Newton, who will also be present. I look forward to learning, growing and bring back valuable math practices to my school and students.
