Our STEM, Title I school serves a diverse community of K-5 students in Beaverton, Oregon. Nearly 65% of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch and 15% experience homelessness at some point during the school year. However, our students persevere through these hardships.
As a STEM School, our students are focusing on embedding math in areas of science, technology, and engineering.
I am fortunate enough to work with small groups of students to support them in becoming confident problem solvers. Discussing strategies to help math make sense.
My Project
My students struggle with math fluency. I believe with your help the ETA Hand2Mind Daily Math Fluency kit will support my students to become successful in their knowledge of number sense. Students will be able to use this tool on a daily basis to get the practice they need to develop their math fluency. I hope to make this part of our number talks before we dive into our math workshop.
For students to feel successful in math they also need to feel confident.
The ETA Hand2Mind Daily Math Fluency kit, I believe will encourage kids to contribute more and become mathematicians. This kit comes with math manipulatives that will engage my students and will allow them to think of numbers in a flexible way. I'm excited to have my students see numbers in a true way and to begin to lead them on their math journey.
