This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and obtain problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.
My Project
Students in first grade are still building their foundation of math and understanding of numbers. This daily fluency kit will provide a strategic plan to further develop these skills. It is important for students to have daily exposure and practice with number fluency games that will build their knowledge.
The kit also provides hands-on manipulatives that will help reach a variety of learners at their level.
This will also be a useful tool in helping students revisit concepts they did not master in kindergarten so that any skill gaps are filled in and they can continue building their knowledge of math.
