As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I work in a small rural elementary school with almost 300 students.
The biggest challenge as a teacher is to increase students' motivation to learn and succeed.
Because of their different difficult situations they experience in their lives, it is sometimes hard to keep them focused on their school work. A couple of them are receiving special education, speech and intervention services. All of them love to learn.
We try to create a family-like atmosphere.
My students are excited about learning, and would love to have opportunities that many others in our community have.
This math fluency kit will continue to enhance the hands on classroom that I strive to create. My fifth grade students will be able to choose from a variety of strategies to assist with keeping them on grade level.
Though it's early in the year, I am already noticing that even though my students are enthusiastic during math, the majority of my students are not so fluent with their math facts.
These students are a little slow when answering problems involving basic facts.
I am requesting one ETA hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit.
In as little as 10 minutes a day, my students will be able to build up their math fluency with a variety of activities. Students will use visual models to master fluency strategies. Once students master these skills, they will be able to spend more time on actually solving a problem rather than trying to recall the basic facts.
