My Students

Fifth grade is such an exciting time. The students have entered their last year of elementary school and we are preparing them for middle school. It is the last year my students will all be together, some of them have been together for 7 years.

My students are bright, driven, and talented.

They come from a diverse, multicultural background. Despite all the different backgrounds (economic, gender, race, etc), the students work as a family and strive to do their best. The school is a positive and safe environment for them to flourish in and see their potential.

My Project

The Hand2Mind Daily Math Fluency Kit will allow my students to build number sense and mental math skills. Students are not always coming to 5th grade knowing all their math facts and how to easily manipulate numbers mentally. Students will participate in number talks multiple times a week where we can address building their math fluency.

Math fluency is so important in developing a foundation to mathematics upon which students can build upon their base.

This kit will teach them more of the skills they need to be successful with the 5th Grade math content they learn in the classroom. Mental math and Number sense are half the battle with higher level math skills.
