I'm the Special Education teacher in an ICT setting. On a typical day, my students are energetic and excited to learn. However, most require support through auditory instruction and tactile manipulatives. As a teacher who strives to enrich all, math file folder games would be greatly appreciated!
My school is a Title I (high poverty) school.
The students in my class are both English Language Learners as well as Students with Disabilities. In my class of 32 enthusiastic 2nd grade students, it is often difficult to enhance instruction to provide support to a variety of learners. My students are both visual and kinesthetic learners. Therefore, I am positive that with the requested mathematics materials, students will be able to enrich their learning by allowing them to collaborate and work in groups to learn the concepts needed to understand grade-level math in a fun and exciting way! In addition, with the push to have all students college and career ready, it is of utmost importance to expose my students to all mathematical concepts taught in order to meet Common Core Learning Standards.
My Project
As the majority of my students are struggling academically, the materials requested would allow for a reinforcement of what is being taught during the school day. This includes practicing taught math concepts which will allow for a reinforcement to aid in student retention. I also plan to use the materials for small group instruction, enrichment, peer tutoring, as well as for game time, as I look forward to providing my students with the opportunity to see that learning math can be fun. Overall, I can't wait to see the light in their eyes when they are better able to comprehend grade-level math concepts
I believe that all students are unique and learn through different means.
In addition, I feel that students learn best when they are exposed to material through auditory means and then reinforced with both visuals and tactile manipulatives. I know that these materials will provide my students with what they need to better comprehend grade-level texts. Not only will my students benefit on an individual basis, but they will also serve as a means for cooperative group work and peer conversations!
