Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my fourth grade students come from low income single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are uneducated and not able to help their children develop reading skills. On the first day of school, more than 90% of the students that entered my classroom were not reading at a third grade level and could not solve basic math facts. These students are hard working and goal oriented, they just need reading and math material that will help them to develop the skills they need in order to achieve their academic goals.
My Project
My students need opportunities and tools to practice their math skills. Students come into my classroom each year not understanding basic multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction skills. Students need to develop a strong number sense in order to be successful inside and outside of the classroom.
Having Powers of 10 Slider Boards, Visualize Math Write & Wipe Boards, and Mastering Multi-step Problem Solving Cards to use will provide them with much-needed opportunities and tools to master concepts.
These are resources that the children enjoy using. I would like to incorporate these resources into my small group instruction by having my students practice and reinforce their Math skills while making this time enjoyable and engaging.
The write and wipe boards will allow my students to visualize daily math concepts and reinforce the objectives that my students have to master by the end of the school year.
