My Students

We are a classroom community of 41-second grade students that make up two sections at our school which is a rural, consolidated district located in Minonk, Illinois. There are 22 boys and 19 girls in the two second grade classes. Our district has adopted and implemented Math Workshop, a Best Teaching practice. Students are given the opportunity to learn the skills a 21st-century learner needs in order to be successful in their education. Our eager students look forward to learning and practicing their math skills in a fun, rotation-based setting.

My Project

Our second grade classrooms have implemented Math Workshop to provide students with best teaching practice to prepare our students with a 21st century education. Research shows that when engaged in learning centers students increase their math knowledge. Our second grade classrooms are in need of math center stations to provide hands-on materials and manipulatives for student use throughout the duration of the year to support each child's understanding of mathematical concepts. These math stations range from addition strategies to counting money to fractions, and more. Math stations also foster cooperative and collaboarative group involvement which promotes social learning as well.
