Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Pittsburg high school is the only high school in our little town, so it is very diverse In cultural and socio-economical backgrounds. Every 8th grader in our town, Teaching at the only high school entails interacting with hundreds of people daily. Our high school student population is about 3,000 kids with 200+ staff members. I like to tell my students our school is like a college campus.
If you came to the town of Pittsburg, CA you will see small-town parades all year long.
The parades showcase various aspects of the town like the high school clubs and associations, or the mayor and police chief, and more importantly the CAR Show community.
Unfortunately, Like many small towns, our technology capabilities and expertise is very limited. Before the global pandemic it was evident that my school was running on archaic technology. The school closures have shined a light on the disadvantages of being behind on technology. It is no wonder that so many of my incoming students were not engaged during the spring school closures. It Is my responsibility to make sure my students have access to quality online resources so they can learn while at home.
My Project
With an IXL account my students will be able to learn about their math levels, and I will be able to create a curriculum that meets the needs for all my students.
With IXL I can get my students’ math levels while they are at home during school closures, and this will allow me to create individualized math plans to catch them up before the schools reopen.
Student’s families and learning specialists will also receive the comprehensive reports about their Progress.
Students are given immediate feedback on their math work.
With a teacher account I can see who is logged on, and for how long they attempted the math skill. This will help me plan for math tutorials, and small zoom meetings.
