The coronavirus has completely altered what "normal school" is these days, starting with absolutely no closure for anyone, my students, or myself. My students left for the day thinking they would be returning to our classroom the following Monday, only to be told not long after school let out that they would not be going back for at least a week. This only lasted a few days until the return date was extended, then extended again, and finally, the remainder of the school year was to be conducted through "distance learning."
My students need various dice to reinforce their learning and practice their skills in a fun and exciting way, rather than always completing a worksheet or online assignments that requires technology.
No one could have predicted the drastic changes that would have happened in such a short timespan. I miss my students terribly and had no way to know they would be going home until the beginning of next school year, with no access to any supplies.
My Project
My project is to provide my students with a starting dice game, additional multi-sided dice, and operations dice that could be used in so many ways. Students can play the game with the original dice to practice mental math strategies and change the multi-sided die to make it more challenging. They could even create equations to model a problem and then solve, rather than use a worksheet.
My students would benefit from various dice that would reinforce their learning and help them practice their math skills in a fun and exciting way.
These resources have endless ways they can be used and applied at home for math, including learning new concepts (as they are a visual), reinforcing previously learned concepts, and for a challenge as they continue on in their education and beyond.
