This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the pain of memorizing your multiplication facts in third grade? My students are facing the same troubles. To compound this fact is many of my students are coming from homes without the resources and support to practice and learn these facts.
My students attend a performing arts magnet school.
They are very creative children who love to learn. More than anything they love when someone takes the extra time to work and support them. Many of my students are excited about math. They come in each morning wanting to practice math facts and ask for cards to play fact games.
My Project
In order to help maintain students focus and attention on the math skills we are learning, I am implementing math stations. One of the stations need to focus on fluency of math facts (accuracy and speed). I am requesting self checking practice materials and games to use at this station. In third grade there is a big focus on learning multiplication facts. Many of my students continue to need practice with addition facts, so I am also requesting addition fact practice as well.
Math facts are the foundation to many other areas in math.
We use math facts all of the time in real life. If students don't learn these facts, they quickly fall behind in upper grades. My goal is to have children realize how vital math facts are and that Math Counts!
