We live in rural Maine with limited resources and a high level of poverty. The students in our school need to be supported to succeed academically and find how they best learn. I teach junior high-level mathematics in a small school. My students enjoy the flexibility of learning in small group environments and with teachers who look after not only their academic needs but their needs as a whole. The more we encourage our students to succeed academically, the more they will thrive throughout their lives. I also run a technology club for grades 2-8.
My Project
Right now I am a 6-8 math teacher trying to engage and work with my students remotely. It has made me reconsider how to connect with them and help build their math knowledge in new ways.
Literature and read aloud activities not only connect me with my students but help bring math into the everyday for my students.
These books would provide me with a library of math books I can read and discuss with my students to help us stay connected and engaged during this difficult time. It is my hopes that through video chatting and prerecorded video I can share a love of math through this resource.
