Do you remember how fun math could be when something that seemed hard all of the sudden seemed so easy? My students are at that point and love to watch math come alive right before their eyes!
My students are great kids!
We have a multi-age classroom of 4th and 5th graders. They come from a rough neighborhood where school is the stability for many of them. My kids work hard and are excited for learning. They have a love for learning every new thing and want to show everyone that comes in the room what they have learned!
The class as a whole teaches each other new things, and they learn together. The 5th graders look out for their younger classmates and therefore it feels like a family in the classroom.
My Project
We are starting guided math in our classroom. The students will work at centers while I am working with a small group and switch during the math time. The students will use their math sense to work and practice at the centers. The materials requested here will provide added practice to what the students are learning in class. The students will be able to maneuver through the activities independently or with a partner and be successful. The learning will be fun!
I have requested the game Smath, which is like Scrabble but with math facts; who wouldn't like to learn their times tables by playing a game? I have also requested two different math sets that have games and activities that are at different levels so they meet the needs of all of our learners. The math activities will provide that extra step that they need to practice what we are learning in class.

They will be impacted by being able to use an activity they can enjoy and see math as not just a subject that they have to learn, but as something that is useful and something that they can have fun learning! They will learn using the math resources provided and have fun while doing their math facts!
