Ms. Holbrook from Charlotte NC is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need various math center games including Mastering Math Games Library set, Problem Solving Card Bank, Hot Dots Quiz Cards, and Test Prep Math Rings.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school is over 90% economically disadvantaged but that does not change their burning desire to learn and achieve. They inspire me on a daily basis to be the best teacher that I can be to insure they will have the same experiences and opportunities other children are afforded.
My students love math!
They also love math centers and many tell me that it is their favorite time of the day. However, the center activities that we have now are mainly activities that I have found or made from anything I could find. Our school just does not have the means to purchase newer, hands-on math materials. It has been proven that children learn best from getting to touch and interact with what they are learning, and many times my students cannot do this because we just don't have the supplies!
One huge step in solving this problem of not having enough math materials that the students can actually touch and interact with is by getting these math resources outlined in my proposal. The main math concepts that 4th graders learn are multiplying, dividing, measurement, fractions and geometry, problem solving, and graphing. I have found many hands-on activities related to all of these topics that would make wonderful math centers. They are bright, interesting, and challenging; everything my student's would love!
You will make it possible for my students to have the same experiences and opportunities that students in higher income schools have.
Many of my kids view school as a safe haven, and with your help their favorite time of the day, math center time, can be made all the more powerful!
