My students need math manipulatives like tens frames and number lines. They need to practice fact fluency with fluency puzzles and power pen cards. They also need math centers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, I am a numeracy coach and I get to work with students from many different grade levels in which I provide small group math instruction. My students learn best using a hands-on approach. The tens-frames, number lines, fraction magnets and the math center activities will be a great help.
At this time, I have a small group of kindergarten and Grade 1 students, a group of second grade students and a group of third grade students.
My students are receiving Tier 2 Math services. They will receive this in addition to their daily numeracy block to build their number sense, build conceptual understanding and skills in math. They work very hard and love to receive their stickers every time that we meet.
The students love to work with the manipulatives. They enjoy building and learning while using their hands. We try to create independent learners - this becomes apparent while they work in centers after we model how the center works. This independence will help students persevere in their math tasks.
My school is a Turnaround Arts school! We integrate the arts into our core subjects. We find that this practice increases student engagement and allows the students to make connections between their math skills and the arts.
My Project
With these new resources, students will be working at centers, while teachers take guided math groups. The centers will help create independence and build peer collaboration. While these centers are occurring, the teacher will be able to meet with a small group of students where they can target a specific focus using prescriptive strategies during their instruction. Students will build up their math fluency and number sense skills. Strategies that Greg Tang has presented will be shared with the students. They will be able to solve problems using various strategies and different approaches. Common Core Fluencies, Perseverance and accuracy will be strengthened. An emphasis of Fractions for Grades 3 through 5 will continue to be a priority that will be monitored with pre-tests and post-tests. Hands-on materials will be used to build a conceptual understanding in Fractions - identify, show equivalence, compare, operations. Greg Tang specifically uses number lines and benchmarks.
The donations to this project will improve my classroom because we will no longer need pictorial templates on paper.
Students will be able to use the concrete materials to maneuver the resources in order to interact with the concepts. When we move to algorithms for efficiency, the students can justify their work using the manipulatives and prove why the algorithm works. Students will be able to recall the steps or reasoning with the manipulatives better than the algorithm.
