Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a dual-language classroom in a Title I school district. This means my students all come from Spanish-speaking homes, and most of them come from poverty. My students are trying to learn all the objectives that the state requires them to learn at the same time that they are trying to learn a new language.
My school district was devastated during Harvey, and just a few days ago was again affected by tropical depression Imelda.
Our students and parents have gone through a lot in the last few years! My students' parents want to help their children do good in school, but many don't know how. This project will give both parents and students a chance to work together towards achieving the students' goals and give the students a love for reading that will carry on throughout their school years.
My Project
As an educator in a title I school, I am always looking for new materials that will benefit my students. Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and have no access to educational materials at home. I always try to get for them fun materials that they can take home and work with.
Having materials that re-enforce the concepts taught in class, will give my students an extra advantage in their journey to learn all the objectives that the state requires.
I will put the versaTile kit in their Math learning stations. The students will be able to use them every other day during Math station time. I will also send some of the books home for the students to practice with their family.
All the extra practice will help my students learn the objectives and have fun while they are doing it!
