Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite all the adversity they face, my students are always motivated and ready to learn. Unfortunately, my students are growing up in a neighborhood where there is very little inspiration. In hopes of my students not falling into the negativity they are surrounded by, I do my best to maintain a welcoming, safe, and inspiring classroom environment.
Since we have limited resources offered in our school, it is difficult to keep lessons engaging for them.
The majority of my students are English Learners. Although they have not fully mastered the English language, time and time again, my students work hard to excel academically. Therefore, they deserve to have the resources needed to attain a higher level education.
My Project
The ETA Hand2Mind Daily Math Fluency Kit will help my students improve and retain mathematical concepts. The math program we currently use does not give the students much opportunity to have math conversations with their partners. The math fluency kit will allow students to not only engage in meaningful math conversations, but also be able to visualize mathematical concepts. Students will use manipulatives from the kit to count on, count backwards, and consequently; they will understand that math can be solved in many ways. They will learn different math strategies and grow to become more independent (and confident) in problem solving. Math should be engaging and fun to learn, especially at such a young age, which is why my kindergartners will greatly benefit from a daily math fluency kit.
