My students need all different types of math manipulatives to bring their learning to the real world. The math games will give them the opportunity to practice what they are learned independently.
I currently teach 4th grade in an large city where there are many different socio economic students. Many of my students come to school with little or no at home support. They need as much direct instruction as possible during the school day to advance their academic learning. I also have many student who are English language learners which also poses difficulty with the school, home connection.
As the year has progressed I have realized the lack of classroom materials to further their instruction has made it difficult for many of the students to make the appropriate grade level progress.

My Project
Math is a difficult subject for many students. If they have the opportunity to use different types of visual manipulatives, they can learn to apply their knowledge to real world problems. The students can actually see how numbers work along with language. I chose games because math centers are important. Students need the opportunity to practice skill in a fun way but yet still know they are learning as well. I also chose the the fraction number lines because fractions are abstract. It takes lots of different ways to teach that fractions are not a whole number. When they can use a number line through guided math it will take fractions from the abstract to the concrete.
