This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I like this quote from Mickey Mouse: "Arithmetic is being able to count up to twenty without taking off your shoes." I want my students to be able to look at problems and know every strategy they can use to solve it, without counting on their fingers and toes.

Our school is located in southern Louisiana and is a high need school.

My first grade classroom is made up of special education students and regular education students. They are eager to learn and love math. Their scores are telling me that they have a long way to go to master first grade standards. I know that they can achieve anything with help.

My Project

I will use the Addition and Subtraction Instant Learning Center, Addition Hot Dots Quiz Cards, Operations Equivalency Puzzles, Counting & Place Value Folder Game Library, and the Operations Folder Game Library during our small group instruction and one-on-one instruction. Most of my students need to use extra manipulative materials in order to comprehend the strategies being taught. During small group, I give the students extra activities to build up their fluency and to ease their stress over certain standards they don't understand.

Your donation would help my students to excel in math and grow to love it instead of dread it.

Too many students get distraught and shut down when they don't understand. They are too young to get the wrong idea about math. Math can be fun!
