My students need to know their smallest achievements mean something, therefore should be celebrated; with the Spin Wheel, LED lights, Claw Machine and the Message Bracelet Kit they will have a full-on arcade style experience.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The west side of Charlotte is home to a population of students who quietly frankly continue to be pushed under the rug and over to the the next grade without being fully prepared. Not the case here at Movement School, we move kids with a purpose! These students are living at or below the poverty line. Most of my students don't have the basic essential needs at home to properly come to school and function at their best. These students come to school daily with different outside struggles which affect learning in many different ways. I have instilled a sense of curiosity about what life could be like outside their current communities and I'm on a mission to provide them with those experiences.
The population of students that I served come to us with hope and change at the forefront of their minds and the same message is true all of stakeholders involved in the lives.
The lives that my students live only set them up for a train ride on the generational poverty line unless I can provide them with a learning option compatible with how they best like to learn.
My Project
When you think of most classrooms they are style very much boring. They look like they came straight from those 90's video clips that everyone seems to still love playing at every professional development. No wonder our students are falling asleep at their desks, they need constant engagement.
Through the use of LED lights, music and the element of surprise my students will never know when its time for a ultra secret mission or a quick challenge!
Now what better way than to celebrate their mastery of not only math skills but social skills, problems solving skills and personal goals then to allow them a spin on the prize wheel or possible earn a chance to visit the Claw Machine? How excited would you be each day to know you're not coming to class, your get to go to the arcade? These resources will take the learning experience to the next level, allow me as the instructor to be the big kid that I am!!!!! P.S. I'm going to enjoy this just as much as the kids!
