Have you ever been hooked on a tv show, amazed at a commercial, lost in a book, or enthralled in a movie? Have you had that same experience in a math classroom? Students have a hard time having these fascinating experiences in math.
My middle school math students are bright young minds in a rural school.
They are our future engineers, doctors, creators, designers, and innovators. They need to learn to solve problems. They need to explore the mathematics. They need to have the mathematics at their fingertips. They need mathematics to come alive for them like things do in movies, games, and books.
My Project
The iPad minis will allow my students to create movies, commercials, comic strips, puppet plays, music, games, and more. These creations will be bringing mathematics ALIVE to my students.
Students will be creating, the highest thinking level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Students will be engaging in 21st Century learning tasks: collaboration, design, innovation, and communication. Students will be conveying the conceptual meaning of mathematics learned through one of the many apps available in iTunes.
Using the iPad minis, students will take their mathematical knowledge well beyond just rote memory of facts and algorithms. Students will develop a deeper, richer understanding of the content. Students will have the opportunities to become problem solvers.
The iPad minis will prepare my students to pursue career choices in the demanding STEM fields.
The iPad minis will give my students the skills they need to be successful in the job market. The iPad minis will help math come to life for my students.
