Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are part of a blended classroom where there is a mixture of diverse learners with a wide range of abilities and students who come from the neighborhood which is predominantly Mexican-American. We are building the understanding in students that all are welcome in our special needs inclusive classroom.
My classroom is a little lab to practice life skills, make mistakes, and fall in love with learning.
My goal is for my students to understand that learning happens in the world around them, and the best way to teach that is to bring the world to the classroom.
My Project
"Open your textbooks to page 86, students." I hope that my students will never hear these dreaded words. Granted, maybe they are useful to some people, but my students have no use for such a silly phrase. But that does not mean that we don't need books about math. In fact, we need lots of books about math!
My students need experiences to help them learn about the world around them.
Books are a great way to leave the classroom for these experiences without actually leaving the classroom.
We need high-quality books related to math to learn how to see and understand math in the world around us... as well as other math materials.
