Help me give my students a math library! They work so hard and need a little cross-curricular boost!
This project expired on February 1, 2020.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students love to study, but get a little restless! Many are told to trust our rigorous, beautiful little Public Charter School, and the 'unreasonable' emphasis we put on STEM learning. And they do! and they struggle with the amount of expectation that is put on them, as they classify themselves as outsiders, to a learning culture that is so positive.
As much as they are feeling the STEM curriculum, I feel like we are still missing that option for quiet time when needed.
That is where a math library could be a great addition to the classroom. There are so many accessible math readers but unfortunately checking a few out at the library is both time-consuming and has limiting in options . I would like to shelve a bundle or two math books that have been proven entertaining and meaningful. Thank you.
Students hear me over and over and over talk about the content inside these books but don't just take my word for it! In these books, are hundreds of pages that students who are highly literate in STEM classes, still have a disconnect to how math and literacy are connected in the real world. These books have been hand-picked because of their engrossing content and amazing connections.
During our small groups, students might finish early or need some quiet time for themselves.
This small library will give them great escape while keeping them mathematically oriented. They will experience mathematical concepts within the pages of these gems, enhancing real-world applications and sparking creativity.
