The students I have come from families that are from Mexico and Central America. For all of them, their first language is Spanish. They have been in America for a period of 1 to 3 years. It is amazing how fast they are learning English. I am their math teacher, and I am very proud of them. Their scores are the best ones among all third graders in the school. Every time they have a check point test, they surprise me with their scores. They love to do math on the computers. Unfortunately, they only get to use them once every 10 days when it is their turn to go to the computer lab.
I would like to have 4 Chromebooks in the classroom so my students could rotate every day and have the opportunity to work a math program on the computer every day.
I hope my students get picked by a good donor so they are able to continue in their academic success. I will always thank you.
My Project
What would really make my students improve this year would be to have five new Chromebooks in our classroom as we recover from the effects of Hurricane Harvey.
This is my greatest year of teaching!
I have students who enjoy walking into my classroom ready to experience, explore and investigate every lesson I present. I work at a Title I school with 95% of our students receiving free lunch and all of our students receiving free breakfast. My students come from poor economic backgrounds and single parent families. As I prepare my scholars to be successful in all areas for the twenty first century, I am limited to what I can do as a teacher when it comes to technology in my classroom.
Since Hurricane Harvey, things like computers, pencils, map colors, electric sharpener, markers, tissue, as well as a printer for our grade level have disappeared, and this has affected our ability to have all the supplies and resources that we so desperately need!
Chromebooks will benefit my student as they are learning how to research and prepare for the STAAR Math test they will take this year. They need to have a lot of practice and will benefit greatly from use of the computer to work on different problem solving word problems.
The Chromebooks will allow my student to have the opportunity to utilize the Internet and participate in interactive lessons online to further their differentiated individualized instruction. The students in my room will be able to use the necessary resources to produce authentic student work that is required so they can master the TEKS that are introduced on a daily basis.
