My students need 20 wooden bases, 20 hammers, 20 boxes of brads, medium, fine and extra fine sandpaper and tracing paper, along with paint and colored string.
I teach all subjects in fifth grade. Math can be intimidating to some students who think more creatively than linear. I have gifted students along with struggling students with learning disabilities within my class. My classroom and school strive to meet all children where they are and bring their skills up through exciting and enjoyable activities.
I'd like to get those creative thinkers involved in math while allowing them to create beautiful works of art. String art is a way to work on ratios, fractions, and proportion as they work on wonderful designs worthy of hanging on a wall. The kids have already picked out their designs, I just need to get the supplies for them. The finished products from these designs are nothing less than stunning.
I need wood bases (20), paint, hammers, nails, sandpaper, tracing paper, and colorful string for their designs. By following intricate designs and modifying them to fit the board students will learn, and use, ratios, fractions, and proportion. This can help my reluctant mathematicians and give them confidence and joy in creating works of art.
The only way a project of this kind is possible is through the generous support such as yours. With the arts and music cut to the quick it is vital that we keep it in our schools any way we can. This donation is not only for math, but it also supports visual art as well. This is a project that is too big to ask our generous parents who keep us supplied with the essentials, it up to donors like you who understand the dire situation our schools are in regarding projects just outside the regular curriculum. Help me give our kids confidence and joy using math.
