Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math has been a struggle for me, and I want my students to have as many opportunities to have math be easier for them and to help them make outside of school connections to build a better understanding of math concepts.
My students are a great group of 1st graders.
They have a love for school and love working in groups so they can interact with each other. Our school is a Title 1-Low income school. We are also a high migrant school-parents travel to different states 1-2 times a year to work on local farms, and students go to the different schools during this time.
My Project
My students will be able to work in cooperative groups doing math games and listening centers. To connect math and reading is so important to the students because they will not only engage in a love for reading; but it will help them grasp math skills, since they'll be working together and discussing how to play/help each other out. They will make connections to the game to help them remember their basic math skills.
My students will be so grateful and happy with this math project.
I have a high ESL population, and they will benefit from the combination of reading and math, as well as with the listening centers and flash cards. It will not only build my whole class's concepts of the subjects; but my ESL students will help learn and understand the English language better.
