Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Within my fifth grade class, I have levels ranging from second grade to seventh grade in mathematics. With such a large range of students, I do my best to differentiate so that my higher level students are challenged and so that my lower level students are not in a constant state of frustration. My efforts have proven to work well with most of my students. Students who have never been successful in math are now starting to see that they really can be good at math. I remember growing up being one of those frustrated few and I sympathize with the agony that I used to see on some students' faces. Now, I am able to see the little twinkle in their eyes more often rather than the tears of frustration. With the help of some additional math manipulatives, games and activities, I can continue to help my students to grow on their own individual basis. My students will no longer dread math because they think that they cannot do it. My students will be able to take the confidence that they have found in math and transfer it to other aspects of their lives.
