Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kearny is the town I grew up in and has always been the melting pot environment that has added to our uniqueness. The students here mainly come from blue collar families. The background of our students vary from 1st generation to 5th and beyond. We have many South American countries represented as well as a good mix of Polish, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese students. A high percentage of our students do not speak English at home and our ELL population is growing.
Kearny is that town that sits in the middle of everything.
We do not have affluent families donating money into our schools and we do not qualify for much funding like the inner city schools. Kearny is a very proud town and has a great sense of community.
My Project
Students will create a story that will be solved using systems of equations. They will use the markers and posters to display the story and its solutions. The class will use post it notes to critique their math art. When the students use the poster and create their own situation, it makes them more interested and connected to the project.
The posters will be used to display their created situations about Solving Systems of Equations.
Student's posters will have the student created story along with graphs and equations to make the problem understandable. The students will then have a chance to explore the other students work and critique by checking their classmates designs.
