Dean Schlicert once said "Go down deep enough into anything and you will find mathematics." Everything in our world has to do with mathematics.
Mathematics is one of the most common anxiety that students have.
My students struggle with creating a strategy that works for them. They feel worthless and unable to move forward. They think about what could go wrong. Math strategies need to be explicitly taught. Not just handed off to the students. Students should have the option to advocate for themselves and pick a strategy that works for them.
My Project
Math is about flexible thinking. No longer is it memorizing algorithms. Students need to be able to explain their answers. Because this is hard for most students, students need to practice the skills to do so.
Robert John Meehan has said "Every Child has a different learning style and pace, each child is unique not only capable of learning by also capable of succeeding.
If students only have one way of thinking (memorization) how can we expect them to explain why or think critically? Students need to be explicitly taught the strategies that they can use. And so many students do not receive that instruction. Help me fix that with my SPED students.
