As an English Language Learner teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district, my scholars face several challenges inside and outside of the classroom. 100% of my scholars eat breakfast and lunch at school. Our elementary school is a Title I school, which means we rely on donations and money from the government. Some of my scholars do not live with their parents, some are in foster care. They face social and emotional challenges. Despite these challenges, they are present everyday ready and willing to learn with a warm smile and positive attitude! Our classroom is an inviting, caring, community of eager learners. They are eager to learn new and excited things!
These manipulatives and materials will provide hands-on practice, helping scholars hone in on their mathematical thinking skills. Math has many areas -- patterns, measurement, geometry, statistics, probability, and more -- and they're often unfamiliar, abstract, and confusing to scholars. It is required that I help my scholars successfully develop the ability and confidence to find their way around in each of these areas, see how they connect, and know what to do should they forget a fact or procedure.
The effective use of manipulatives can help students connect ideas and integrate their knowledge so that they gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
Your donations will help my classroom scholars become expert mathematicians by helping to make abstract ideas concrete, build scholars' confidence by giving them a way to test and confirm their reasoning, are useful tools for solving problems, and make learning math interesting and more enjoyable!
