My students are active learners who love to try new things! In our 5th grade class we are always willing to rise to the challenge of learning. They have a wide variety of likes and interests but work together well as a class no matter what the subject. They are excited about school and spending time building relationships with others. Their ability to learn and grow is simply amazing. I can't wait to see what all we accomplish by June!
My Project
Children learn best when they are able to use concrete models and manipulatives. This is especially true when it comes to science and math. Even in the upper elementary grades students need to use items in the Hands-On Math teaching kit, fraction circles, decimal operation grids, volume cubes and many other items to help them understand math before they only use written expressions.
When students are able to do investigations and experiments themselves, they have a much better understanding of the concepts.
It is so much easier to understand circuits when you use electronic snap circuits and actually get to see the circuits work. Building a model that uses wind power shows them how alternative energy sources are used. Science concepts come to life when they are actively participating in the learning. Using engaging books like Max Axiom graphic novels also helps the students understand challenging concepts in a fun and interesting way.
