There is such a shift to the new "Common Core" that materials and resources are limited, especially in science and math. These standard changes have made it difficult to provide the very best experiences for my students. This needs to change.
I serve twenty-two, first grade students who live in the heart of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky.
They are bright, energetic, and extremely eager learners. They are at a very critical time in their life, the beginning stage of reading, math, and science. Their focus should be on learning, rather than what they don't have or what they need.
My Project
I'm requesting a copier and toner to be able to provide my students with the best educational experiences possible. My students need access to the necessary activities to reinforce science and math concepts. Currently, there is one copier servicing the entire building and it is always being used. No longer will time be spent standing in line for a turn to use it. My students materials will be readily accessible within the classroom. Their science logs and math journal pages will be at their fingertips, rather than having to postpone entries into their journals as a result of these materials. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of a science experiment or a hands-on math activity through their response journals.
To be effective, it is imperative that students have the necessary materials that they need at their finger tips.
