Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
79% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many students and their families suffered loss from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey this year, an experience that we would hope no child would have to go through. Despite these hard times, our students show up excited about learning and willing to try their best. At LBE, we believe in growth mindset and we believe with all of our heart that every student can achieve greatness if given the tools, support, and time they need to be successful. We want students excitement for learning to spread throughout our community. One way for us to do this, is to host a LB Math and Science Night for our 21st century learners!
My Project
Our students at LBE LOVE mathematics and we have worked hard to mathematize our school, students, and staff. However, with the increased pressure of state assessments, too often science, technology, and engineering education are pushed to the side! In addition, mathematics testing has decreased the FUN that should be incorporated when learning mathematics. This is why we are so excited to receive our Book Math Games for grades K through 4th! We look forward to implementing these Math Games into our Math and Science Night for both students and parents to enjoy! We are also hoping to get creative with mathematics using the Grade K Math Art Integration Kit! We look forward to the fusion of art and mathematics!
We are trying to provide a Math and Science Night, which will strengthen our community of mathematicians and scientists and will also deepen our students love for designing, planning, solving, and evaluating mathematical and scientific skills through STEM education.Real-world tasks which offer challenging, problem-solving opportunities are essential for children who will be expected to flourish within our 21st century world.
Activities like the STEM Challenge Pendulum will introduce our students to these type of real-world tasks. We are responsible for cultivating futures scientists, technology experts, and engineers in addition to mathematicians. In order to do so, we must provide these young minds with tasks that encourage collaboration and require grit to succeed in the world of STEM.
By receiving educational tools like the Kit Maker Simple Machines and STEM Challenge Wheel Ball students will be able to experience the challenge of synthesizing, designing processes and procedures, hypothesizing, and making inferences and connections. These cognitive skills are crucial for students to be successful in our future workforce!
