My students are creative, brilliant and determined to succeed. They are a group of 10- to 11-year-old students who strive to do their very best and attack education with limitless ambition.
I constantly share with them how much THEY, as learners, motivate me, their teacher, to push and challenge myself in whatever I set out to do.
Regardless of their backgrounds and the unique challenges they face, when they enter our school doors, they are over-comers, go-getters and scholars ready to tackle the world! I am so proud and grateful to be their teacher!
Science and math should not be subjects which students dread! My goal is that every student in my class leaves feeling more confident about themselves as an academic student!
With the majority of my students coming from low income homes, reading, math, and science are often challenging subjects and areas that kids tend to lack confidence in!
However, if the resources we use are engaging and relate to the students’ personal interests, it helps develop better comprehension and academic skills! It is a beautiful thing to watch kids become invested, excited and confident about their learning!
I requested various Hot Dot card sets including States of Matter and Animal, Plant, and Ecosystems as well as 6 talking pens to go with them. These activities can be used during independent or partner work. Students can practice basic comprehension and math/science skills and have FUN while doing it! The students use the pens to highlight the answer of choice, and an immediate audio visual response will sound! These have the ability to create the perfect independent and self-paced learning for my students!
I have also requested a math fraction game. As we get into the more complex content such as fractions, my students are in need of hands of manipulatives. Finally, I have requested Sharpie markers because the need for them in a classroom is never ending!
