I work with the youngest learners in an urban preschool setting. My students are a diverse group of young learners ages 3-5. Most come from high poverty homes. 78% or more of the students at my school qualify for free and reduced lunch.
The majority of my students have speech and language needs, students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, students with autism, motor concerns, English as a new language and/or sensory concerns.
They love to learn and are so excited to be in preschool!
My Project
My students love to use their hands and minds to explore math and science materials. These additional age appropriate math and science materials to fit their little hands will be wonderful. The addition of math games, constructing toys, and magnetic counting materials will make their STEM thinking less frustrating.
The majority of my students need help on their fine motor skills.
The Froogz suction toys, allow the students to build and strengthen their hand muscles. The magnetic train set allows the children to design train tracks without the frustration of trying to put together a wooden track. The large unifix cubes fit their little hands better than the smaller ones. Larger handled magnifying glasses and eye droppers let the kids explore without the fear of breaking the items. They become easily frustrated trying to manipulate counters for counting and toys for building. The magnetic toys ease their frustration and make building and counting fun. They will have so much fun with these materials that can be used for many math and science activities.
