I teach in Title I school in a highly poverty-stricken area of NYC. The students, predominantly Hispanic and Black, are burdened with more responsibilities than can be imagined, yet they come to school each day and try to learn the lessons in front of them. The students and their parents' lives are plagued with the harsh realities of life and poverty. Many times, the task of putting food on the table has to take precedence over school. This hardship can cause a lack of focus and create a stressor that makes it nearly impossible to harness the students' abilities.
We are taking our students to Queens College to learn about Math and Science in a fun way! The circus contains a world famous juggler from Cirque Du Soleil who has over two million views on his YouTube and has performed on five different continents!
This trip will encourage students to learn in a fun, interactive way!
We want to close the year by reviewing our math and science in the beat way possible. These trips are not something that are always made possible for our students due to their hardships. This trip includes cost per ticket and toll fare each way.
