Math and Robots - a Winning STEM Combination

My students need engaging & STEM centered hands-on activities and manipulatives in order to learn how the math we learn in class applies to the real-world. These M-Bots will spark students' interest and increase learning.

My Students

I currently teach Geometry and Algebra 2 at a high school that is classified as a critical needs high school.

My high school serves many bright, energetic students who, despite the fact that they come from very low-income homes, come to school each day and strive to learn.

The students in my classroom are diverse in their culture, their interests, and their learning styles. They like using technology when learning, and I have found that allowing students to work together to create, build, and present their own STEM projects sparks creativity and allows them to take more ownership in their education.

My Project

Sometimes students have a hard time comprehending how the math we are learning in class ties to the real world. I would like to give students the opportunity to build robots and create the code needed to "run" those robots. I know that these "robot centered" activities will not only spark students' interest but also show them how the math they are learning ties to real-world concepts that they love. The two MBots I am requesting will provide the necessary tools and materials I need to create engaging STEM activities for years to come; I know the students will be extremely engaged and excited!
