My students are in the 8th grade and are average thirteen years old. These students are also serviced in the general education classroom, in the inclusion program. I work with them in the general education classroom, where I provide interventions in reading, writing, and math, to help them progress through grade levels. A majority of the students are language learners. They particularly need these hands-on and computer online based programs to help them improve their grade level skills, given all of them function two or three grade levels below. Also, the school services mostly underprivileged students with a diverse staff.
Students use individual accounts to access the EDGENUITY program. Once they sign in, they take a placement test, using their iPads to determine at what grade level they are functioning. Based on their assigned grade level, a course is generated to help them meet the skills they are lacking. Courses are offered in math and language arts, and students learn basic skills from number sense, fractions, percent, and equations. Also, students can progress through courses in algebra to Calculus, at the high school level. An additional laptop will lead to effective use of time and practice, for improved literacy, as students won't need to wait to take turns on the limited computers.
