This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My wonderful class is made up of 21 amazing students who love exploring and learning! They are vibrant and energetic students who have a love for life and learning. Our school is a PBL/ STEAM school in an urban neighborhood made up of mostly lower income families. 100% of the school is eligible for free lunches. We promote hands on learning and exploration in a collaborative setting where students work together to solve problems with critical thinking and communication skills.
My Project
These math and ELA materials will allow my students to have many different activities to choose from during center and small group time. For example the math folder games library and the reading and writing folder games library, will allow the students to pick fun interactive games during center time rather than just completing worksheet packets. Currently in our classroom we don't have a lot of different options for students to choose from during center and small group time. I want my students to be able to pick the games or activities they are going to participate in during their work time. When students have more choice and get to pick what they are doing, it often leads to higher engagement and participation. Having all of these different activities will increase student learning and engagement. The High Interest intervention reading folders will be a great activity to do with a few of my lower small groups who are struggling with those reading skills. The rest of the items such as the flashcards and the skills books will also be used during independent work or partner work time.
