My Project

My school's mission is to collaborate with the community, ensure students achieve academic success, become life long learners and embody positive character traits. Pre-k is where that mission begins. Each day students enter the classroom with a burst of energy and wonder-filled eyes. Some of them can’t wait to see and hear what the adventures of the day will bring. In pre-k, those adventures come in the form of attention grabbing playtime.

Students need a variety of activities to help them stay engaged during our math center time.

This project is to fund activities that help young scholars practice counting, recognize number names, and write numerals. Recognizing numbers is the first step of being able to practice more complex math skills. For example, one activity is a three piece rocket where each piece of the rocket has a different representation of the same number. Learners have to match the pieces of the rocket to practice counting to twenty. How fun is it to play with rockets all while learning these foundational math concepts?

From the outside looking in, these activities might seem like fun games. But they play a crucial role in helping these early learners make sense of the world around them.
