My students need Measurement Centers, Counting Money Puzzles, and Data and Graphing Instant Learning Center to get an instant, visual grasp of these math concepts.
I am the second grade teacher in the school that serves a very high number of ELL students. This year, I have over 30 amazing ELL (English language learning) students in my classroom, and one fourth are newcomers. I teach them all subjects – Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing.
There are over five different languages spoken in my classroom, and it represents a wide variety of individuals with different social and economic backgrounds.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of them receive free school supplies, too.
A typical day in my classroom consists of many differentiated learning activities where students constantly interact with each other and learn from each other. We literally use every second that we have and my kids are exhausted by the end of the day, Ha! Honestly though, our day goes by so speedy fast that we don't even realize the day is over.
My Project
With Counting Money Puzzles my students will be able to practice matching coins to their correct money value, and master money concepts piece by piece.
With the Measurement Center my students will be engaged in exploring concepts such as heavy/light, more/less, length/width, just to name few.
These concepts are not always easy for this age group, and especially not for my ELL students.
With Data & Graphing center students will build skills independently: collect data, then create and interpret their own bar graphs!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student understanding of these math concepts, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
