Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is a family that consists of thirty-eight eager-to-learn Kindergarten students in a Title I school in Houston, Texas in which all of the students receive free lunch.
The majority of my students come from single-parent households in which they struggle to make ends meet, but despite their difficulties, they always come into our classroom with smiles, eager to learn.
I want to provide my students with unique learning experiences in and out of our classroom that they can carry through life.
Many of my students and their families were affected by hurricane Harvey and I am trying to make them feel welcomed and secure in my classroom. I also want them to feel like their world is going back to normal after such a tragic event.
My Project
My students need a set of 30 dot and learn addition journals. We were blessed to be funded a previous project which contained 10 addition journals and my students love them so much that I want to be able to provide each one an individual journal to practice important math skills such as adding, counting and composing a number using the color dot markers.
My students will be using these journals in their math writing station everyday; I can imagine their excitement once this project funds because they loved the math journals and are eager to own one of their own.
I think that this journal will provide a fun way for students to practice adding.
